In the spring of 1968, Gary Kenney established Youngstown Cycle Sales. He was able to secure a Norton Motorcycle Franchise from Berliner Motor Corp. Three Norton Commando’s and one Moto Guzzi were in the 1200 sq ft store at 2210 Market St when Jim Nadasky arrived home from his four years of service in the United States Air Force on March 7, 1969. The next day Gary was admitted to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Six weeks later Gary lost his battle with Hoskins Disease. Jim and Gary had known each other since grade school and kept in contact as Jim’s journey led him to the military. While Jim was in the service Gary had wrote him letters about starting a motorcycle shop and asked him to become a partner in the business when he was through with his tour of duty. Gary and Jim never got to work a day together. They did share a passion for motorcycling through the years and over the miles that separated them that now continues on today.
On May 5, 1969 Jim Nadasky and his brother Tom purchased Youngstown Cycle Sales. Within two years Jim became the sole owner and moved the business next door to 2112, which was a larger facility. In 1971 Youngstown Cycle Sales became incorporated. In 1976 the Norton Motorcycle Company went out of business and not long after Youngstown Cycle Sales became Youngstown Cycle Supply, Inc. Jim and his employees were building and customizing motorcycles from Norton’s to Honda’s. They were creating unique pieces of art for each one of their customer’s dreams. They did everything from building the frames, customizing parts, to painting the psychedelic artwork on the tanks.
The next big change came in 1979 when Youngstown Cycle Supply opened a second store in Niles, Ohio. In 1982 Jim moved Youngstown Cycle Supply from 2112 Market St. to 3616 Market St., which was a larger facility and has served as home for its many customers and friends. The following year the Niles store was closed and for the next 23 years Youngstown Cycle Supply, Inc. continued to meet the needs of their many growing customers. Jim’s Daughter, Megan, joined the company in 1999 as a part-time job while attending Youngstown State University. Megan graduated in 2004 with a Bachelor’s Degree and is currently the Vice President of Youngstown Cycle Supply. Each day Megan says that she learns something new and truly enjoys her job and her loyal customers. Megan has grown up in the industry and due to her father’s extensive knowledge of over 30 years experience she has had the opportunity to learn from the best. Youngstown Cycle Supply, Inc. has a new home now at 6915 Market, Boardman. They moved there in 2006 and the business is growing strong!
